The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at The Game Awards — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any major prize-giving event draws close, one notices a clamor for the addition of new categories to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications actually cover numerous genres, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely in 2014
  • Another creative title received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored that year
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
